About The ReUse District

Recognizing the importance of reused products is essential to creating an environmentally and economically responsible neighborhood. In 2009 The Green Project, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Rebuilding Together New Orleans, and St. Claude Main Street came together with the idea that reused materials could be celebrated in the neighborhoods in which they worked. Working with for-profit, non-profit, and community organizations  in the 7th Ward, Bywater, Marigny, St. Claude, and St. Roch neighborhoods of New Orleans, The ReUse District aims to promote the appreciation of reused materials and increase the accessibility to them. There are a surprising number of reuse organizations in these neighborhoods selling reused books, clothing, building materials or fashioning these materials into new creations. By working together to promote reuse, The ReUse District and its participating businesses and organizations foster a new, environmentally and economically responsible form of consumerism. Together we act as a collective voice representing local reuse businesses and organizations in these five neighborhoods. The ReUse District hopes to continue to expand and connect with more businesses and organizations working with reused products and to educate New Orleans about the benefits of using the materials we already have.

Mission

The ReUse District promotes the awareness and accessibility of reused materials by uniting like-minded organizations in the 7th Ward, Bywater, Marigny, St. Claude, and St. Roch neighborhoods of New Orleans.

How does The ReUse District work?

The ReUse District functions much like an arts district. Participating reuse businesses and organizations in these five distinct and historic neighborhoods join together to collectively promote their forms of reuse. The ReUse District helps spread awareness of these materials and market individual businesses and organizations by creating a referral system between participants, our Member of the Month campaign, and hosting events celebrating creative reuse.

What is reuse?

Reuse is the incorporation of existing materials in our everyday lives.

Joining The ReUse District

The ReUse District has over 20 members and continues to welcome all businesses and organizations buying, selling, or promoting reuse within our neighborhood boundaries!
